An Artist Sketching

At the Saturday market mentioned in the previous post, there was an artist sketching the scenes in front of her.

She was sitting directly in front of the musicians playing jigs, so I think she might have been drawing them.

I wasn't the only one who noticed what she was doing.

Enjoying the Sights at the Saturday Farmer's Market

The farmer's market was hopping last Saturday morning in Strasbourg.  It is still too early for any spring vegetables or fruits yet.  But there were a lot of potatoes, carrots, leeks, and cheese being sold.

Some musicians were playing jigs at the market.  Quite a few people were gathered around, tapping their feet to the music.

These curly, decorative twigs seem to be all the rage right now.

I love seeing how people transport their baguettes.

This cheese really brought the funk.  Yes, it is edible.
And yes, my husband and I bought some and ate it.
It was delicious!

Some fresh, young cheese and yogurt in a cooler

A vendor taking down the umbrella at his stand.

I tried to take a profile picture of this man, but a lady walked into the frame.
Sooooo......

..... I took another picture of him.
I think grandfatherly, European men have so much style.

Spring is Emerging in Strasbourg

Petite white and yellow flowers are daring to push themselves out of the ground.  They are in a garden located at the Musee de l'Oeuvre Notre-Dame.  This museum honors the origins and history of the cathedral in Strasbourg.
The days are getting a bit longer and brighter in Strasbourg.  Thankfully the cold spell that we were having in January and February has loosened its hold.  They are still subtle, but signs of spring are starting to emerge.

This photo was also taken at the Musee de l"Oeuvre Notre-Dame.  There are some white flowers blooming at the base of this sculpture.

People are spending more time outdoors.  A lady, still bundled in her wool coat, scarf, and boots, is reading outside in the Place de la Republique.

The forsythia is beginning to have a yellowish tinge.

Optimistic cafe owners are starting to put seats outside.

The Orange Vespa

It is not common to see Vespas in Strasbourg.  People here tend to pedal their bikes rather than ride motorized ones.  This orange Vespa caught my eye when I was passing by a post office.  I snapped a picture, thinking it was quintessentially European.

I never thought that I would see it again.  But about an hour later, it buzzed past me.  The driver had a cigarette clamped between his lips as he was driving.  A halo of smoke surrounded his head.  I quickly grabbed my camera and snapped another photo, pleased with seeing the Vespa in action.
